Customer Challenge
Transdev Australasia, a leading operator of bus, marine, light rail, and rail services across Australia and New Zealand, faced the challenge of ensuring its IT function was adequately structured, supported, and aligned with its operational needs. As part of a broader business review, Transdev required an independent assessment of its IT services, organisational structure, and support mechanisms to identify gaps, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal was to enhance the IT function’s effectiveness, ensure service agreements were in place and understood, and develop a roadmap for transformation.
Our Role
Australian Sentinel was engaged to provide an independent perspective and practical expertise to assess Transdev’s IT function. Our role included validating internal views, applying leading practices, and leveraging our deep understanding of Australian and state transport industry standards and policies. We were tasked with performing a current state analysis, risk assessment, and IT strategy development to identify risks, cost-saving opportunities, and actionable recommendations.
Our Approach
Leveraging our Advisory services – Strategy, Discovery, and Recommend, we:
- Conducted a Comprehensive Review:
- Assessed the current IT organisational structure, operating model, and roles and responsibilities.
- Reviewed IT services, support mechanisms, and service agreements.
- Performed Risk Assessment and Gap Analysis:
- Identified gaps and weaknesses in IT support mechanisms, including monitoring, help desk, and incident management processes.
- Conducted over 50 structured interviews with business stakeholders and IT staff, and reviewed more than 100 documents.
- Developed Recommendations and Roadmap:
- Documented findings and provided actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Delivered a detailed report with supporting data and analysis, including a roadmap for enhancing shared services.
Outcomes Delivered
- Current State Assessment: Provided a clear understanding of Transdev’s IT organisational structure, operating model, and service delivery.
- Risk Register (IT Lens): Identified priority areas requiring attention and potential remediation.
- Transformation Roadmap: Delivered a detailed roadmap and business cases for a transformation program to address priority areas.
- Actionable Recommendations: Enabled Transdev to enhance its IT function, improve support mechanisms, and align IT services with business needs.
