Background

Transdev Australasia is an operator of bus, ferry, light rail and rail services in Australia and New Zealand. It is a subsidiary of French-based, international Transdev. Transdev proudly provides mobility solutions across 6 locations in Australia and New Zealand.

Challenge

Transdev's P&C needed to refresh key elements of passenger interface, such as Passenger Information Display at transport stops across 44 locations to fulfil its contractual obligations to Transport for New South Wales. A key requirement was to ensure the solution complies with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards and addresses key audit findings and recommendations without the need to redesign or perform major infrastructure changes to sites.

Solution

Australian Sentinel was awarded the bid and was tasked to carry out the work.

Australian Sentinel managed the overall contract, procurement, project governance & control and managed solution. This included ongoing steering committee, project management, stakeholder management, executive briefing, and general project governance and control. They also deployed the solution which included finalisation of design, test plans, implementation plans, physical installation/commissioning/cabling, prime contractor for 11 suppliers, development and configuration, testing acceptance and transition to trial operations readiness.

Australian Sentinel ensured that DDA standards and compliance were taken into consideration from the onset of the project. This included:

  • Understanding Scope and DDA requirements.
  • Familiarising ourselves with the latest DDA standards.
  • Reviewing past DDA audits, identifying non-compliant sites, facilitating approvals on new designs and developing solutions that address DDA non-compliances.
  • Integrating these standards and audit findings into the procurement, design, implementation, and testing phases of the project.
  • Engaging an external certified DDA consultant supplier to review our design and obtain final certification.

 

Outcome

As a result, Transdev successfully met its commitment to TfNSW by providing upgraded locations that comply with DDA standards and successfully passed compliance auditing.
